EPISODE 9: THE WALLS ARE CLOSING IN

I sat there, frozen.

David. In her bed.

My stomach turned. My head felt light. I wanted to scream, but no words came out.

“Are you okay, dear?” Vanessa asked sweetly, tilting her head.

I snapped out of it and glared at her. “Where did you get my number?”

She raised an eyebrow. “Oh? David gave it to me.”

I blinked. “What?”

“I just told him I wanted to be friends with you,” she continued, sipping her drink. “He didn’t even hesitate.”

A knife twisted in my chest. David gave her my number? So casually? Why?

“You don’t believe me?” she laughed. “Call him. Ask him yourself.”

I reached for my phone but stopped. My hands were shaking.

If I called David now, what would I even say?

Would he lie? Would he tell me the truth?

Or… was I just another foolish girl thinking I was special?

Vanessa smiled like she could read my thoughts. “Ada, let me give you one last advice. The more you try to hold onto David, the more foolish you’ll look in the end.”

I stood up so fast my chair nearly fell. I grabbed my bag and walked out without another word.

But deep down? I was already broken.

I stormed back to my hostel, my heart pounding. I wanted to call David, but I was too angry, too confused.

Just as I reached my door, someone blocked my way.

Brother Samuel.

“Sister Adaeze,” he said sharply. “We need to talk.”

I sighed. “Brother Samuel, please. Not today.”

“No, it must be today,” he insisted. His eyes were full of judgment. “Where are you always running to at night? Who is that boy you’re following?”

I clenched my jaw. “That’s none of your business.”

“I warned you. But you didn’t listen. So now, I have no choice.”

My stomach tightened. “What do you mean?”

He smirked.

“I’ve already spoken to Pastor about you,” he said. “And guess what? Someone else also told me interesting things about you.”

I frowned. “What are you talking about?”

He brought out his phone, unlocked it, and showed me a message.

A message from Vanessa.

Vanessa: Brother Samuel, I’m really worried about Adaeze. She’s falling into temptation, and I don’t want her to lose her way. Maybe the church can help her before it’s too late?

My blood ran cold.

“You’re in contact with Vanessa?” I whispered.

“She cares about you,” he said, smiling.

My head spun.

Vanessa was playing both sides. Pretending to be my “friend” while secretly feeding information to my enemies.

I took a step back. “You had no right to talk to Pastor about me.”

“No,” Brother Samuel corrected, “I had a responsibility.”

I stared at him, boiling inside.

This was worse than I thought.

The church was turning against me. And outside the church? Vanessa was tightening her grip.

There was nowhere left to run.
