EPISODE 13: A Twist I Didn’t See Coming

I read the message again, my heart racing. Charles was getting married? Just like that? I blinked rapidly, wondering if my eyes were deceiving me.

“Naza, are you there?” Amaka’s voice came through the phone.

“I’m here,” I finally managed to say.

“Did you see the message?” she asked urgently.

“Yes, I did. But…” I shook my head. “How? When? Who is he even marrying?”

“That’s the big question,” Amaka said. “No one in the group seems to know. People are just congratulating him blindly.”

I scrolled through the chat. As expected, members were dropping messages like:

“Wow! Congratulations, sir! God bless your union!”

“This is wonderful news! We celebrate with you, Brother Charles!”

“God is good! Can’t wait for Sunday!”

I clenched my jaw. Something about this didn’t feel right.

“Naza, do you think he’s trying to get back at you?” Amaka asked quietly.

I sighed. “Honestly, I don’t know. But whatever his reason is, I’m not going to stress myself over it. He can marry whoever he wants.”

“That’s the spirit, my sister!” Amaka cheered. “But ehn, I won’t lie, I’m curious. We must find out who the lucky girl is.”

I chuckled. “You and gossip sha.”

“Ah ah, leave me!” she laughed. “Anyway, let me call around and see if anyone knows what’s going on. I’ll gist you later.”

After she hung up, I leaned back in my chair, exhaling deeply. This was getting more dramatic by the day. Charles had moved on so fast—or at least, that was what he wanted everyone to believe. But why did I feel like there was more to the story?

As I pondered, my phone buzzed again. This time, it was a message from an unknown number.

“Meet me at Sade’s Café this evening. 5 PM. It’s urgent.”

I frowned. Who could this be? And what was so urgent?
