The Prodigal Daughter – Episode 43
Episode 43: The Chase Begins
Sandra’s feet barely had time to steady before Lanre grabbed her hand and pulled her forward. The room they had dropped into was dimly lit, filled with crates and abandoned equipment. A faint, musty smell filled the air—it was an old storage room.
Deborah was already at the far end, yanking at a metal door. It wouldn’t budge.
“Deborah, hurry!” Sandra urged, glancing up. The sound of movement in the vent sent her heart pounding. Mr. Leke’s men were coming.
Lanre adjusted Tunde’s weight on his shoulder. “We can’t fight them like this,” he muttered. “We have to keep moving.”
Sandra ran to the door, placed both hands against it, and shoved with all her strength. The metal groaned but didn’t move. They were trapped.
Above them, a loud thud hit the ground. One of Mr. Leke’s men had jumped down from the vent.
Sandra turned sharply, locking eyes with him. He was tall, muscular, and armed.
The man smirked, raising his gun. “End of the road.”
No. Not like this.
Sandra’s instincts kicked in. Before the man could pull the trigger, she grabbed a metal rod from the floor and swung it.
CRACK!
The rod slammed against his wrist, knocking the gun from his hand. He cursed, staggering back in pain.
Sandra didn’t stop. She swung again, this time hitting him across the face. He fell backward, unconscious.
Her hands trembled from the impact, but she forced herself to breathe. One down. But more were coming.
Then—the door burst open.
Not from Deborah’s struggle, but from the outside.
Sandra’s body tensed, ready for another fight—but it wasn’t Mr. Leke’s men.
It was a young man in a security uniform.
“Come with me,” he said urgently.
Sandra hesitated. “Who are you?”
“No time for questions. If you stay here, you’re dead.”
Lanre exchanged a glance with Sandra, then nodded. They had no choice.
The security officer turned and sprinted down the hallway. Sandra, Deborah, Lanre, and Tunde followed, their footsteps echoing.
Behind them, shouts rang out. Mr. Leke’s men had entered the storage room.
The chase had begun.

Episode 44: The Past Returns
As they ran through the dark, narrow corridors, Sandra’s heart raced faster than her feet could carry her. The pounding of footsteps behind them only urged her forward.
She couldn’t let them catch her. Not now, not after everything. But as her breath grew heavier, something else stirred in her mind—her mother’s words, those final words before everything had gone downhill.
“Don’t lose yourself, Sandra. When you’re in the dark, remember who you are. Don’t let the world swallow you whole.”
Sandra’s foot caught on a broken piece of metal, and she stumbled. Lanre caught her arm just in time, steadying her.
“Focus, Sandra. Keep moving,” he urged, his voice low but urgent.
Sandra nodded, but her mother’s voice kept echoing in her head. “Don’t lose yourself.”
She had lost herself once—trapped in the wrong crowd, too eager to prove herself, to escape the life she was born into. And now… she was running again. Only this time, she wasn’t running away from her past. She was running towards the truth. A truth she didn’t fully understand yet.
The security officer led them through another winding hall, his footsteps light but steady. “We’re almost there,” he whispered, glancing behind him.
Sandra tried to shake off the nagging feeling that this escape wasn’t as straightforward as it seemed. Could they trust him?
Suddenly, she heard the unmistakable sound of footsteps closing in. Mr. Leke’s men were gaining on them.
“We can’t outrun them,” Deborah said, her voice tight with fear. “We need to find a place to hide.”
But Sandra was thinking fast. Hiding wouldn’t work. They needed to strike first.
“Turn left here!” she shouted.
The group followed her, with the security officer leading the way. They burst into what appeared to be an abandoned stairwell. The walls were damp, the air musty.
Sandra’s mind flashed back to her mother’s words again. “Don’t lose yourself.”
She wasn’t going to let herself be swallowed whole this time. She wasn’t just running for her life anymore—she was running towards something bigger than herself.
But the footsteps were getting closer. They had no time.
“Go up, go up!” Sandra urged, as she grabbed the stair railing and started climbing, heart pounding in her chest.
Behind them, the sound of gunfire echoed, but it didn’t stop them. They couldn’t stop.
Up ahead, the door to the roof was within sight. Sandra’s legs burned, but she pushed forward. She couldn’t fail now.
As she reached the top and yanked the door open, the cold air hit her face. They were on the rooftop.
She didn’t hesitate. She ran.
