HOW I LOST MY VIRGINITY AS A CHURCH GIRL: Episode 10

NOWHERE TO RUN

I stood there, my chest rising and falling fast.

Vanessa had played me.

The church was turning against me.

And David?

David was acting like nothing was happening.

Brother Samuel tucked his phone into his pocket and stepped closer. “Sister Adaeze, you need to change your ways before it’s too late.”

I folded my arms. “Change my ways for what exactly?”

His smirk deepened. “You know what you’ve been doing. Moving with men that don’t have godly intentions. Sneaking out at night. The Bible says—”

“Please, Brother Samuel,” I cut in. “Don’t quote scriptures at me.”

His face tightened. “Then act like someone that knows the Word.”

I wanted to slap him.

But most of all?

I wanted to disappear.

Because I knew what was coming next.

The Church Meeting.

GIST DON SPREAD

The next day, the whispers started.

Sisters that used to call me “my dear” suddenly couldn’t look me in the eye.

Some of the brothers that always greeted me with “God bless you, sister” now walked past like I was air.

And the worst part?

Pastor’s wife called me aside after service.

“Adaeze, my dear,” she said with a tight smile. “I’ve been hearing… disturbing things about you.”

My chest tightened. “Mummy, I—”

She raised her hand. “Don’t worry. I’m not judging you. But on Sunday, we will have a special meeting. Just to clear things up.”

I swallowed hard.

A “special meeting” was just a polite way of saying public disgrace.

They were planning to put me in front of the whole church and finish me.

And there was nothing I could do to stop it.

BETRAYAL NO DEY LOUD

That night, I finally did what I had been avoiding.

I called David.

He picked up after a few rings. “Ada?”

His voice was calm. Like nothing was happening. Like I wasn’t in serious wahala because of him.

“You gave Vanessa my number?” I asked, my voice sharp.

Silence.

“David, answer me.”

He exhaled. “She asked for it.”

My chest tightened. “And you just gave it to her like that? Without even telling me?”

“Ada, what’s the big deal?” he sighed. “You’re acting like I betrayed you.”

I laughed dryly. “You don’t get it, do you?”

“Get what?”

“I’m in serious trouble, David!” My voice shook. “Vanessa went to Brother Samuel. She’s spreading rumors. Now the church people are turning against me. And you—” My breath caught. “You don’t even care.”

Silence.

Then—

“Ada, calm down.”

I almost smashed my phone.

“Calm down?” I repeated, shaking. “David, I defended you. I trusted you. And now—”

I swallowed hard. “Just tell me the truth. Are you still sleeping with Vanessa?”

More silence.

Then, I heard it.

A small, dry chuckle.

Like I had asked a stupid question.

Like I was being delusional.

And that was when I knew.

I was nothing to him.

I wasn’t special.

I was just another church girl he had played with.

I ended the call before he could say another word.

And for the first time in my life, I hated myself.
