EPISODE 18: WHEN MONSTERS COLLIDE

Vanessa’s name was everywhere.

Some people called her a snake. Some called her a cheat. Others said she was just reaping what she sowed.

But one thing was clear—she had lost control of the narrative.

And I?

I finally had my revenge.

Or so I thought.

THE PHONE CALL

That evening, my phone rang. Vanessa.

I stared at the screen. I could feel Ifeoma’s eyes on me.

“Are you going to pick?” she asked.

I hesitated. Then, slowly, I swiped to answer.

I put the phone to my ear.

Silence.

Then, her voice—low, controlled, dangerous.

“Adaeze,” she said softly, “I underestimated you.”

I didn’t reply.

“You think you’ve won?” she continued. “You think you’ve destroyed me?”

I swallowed.

“Sweet girl,” she whispered, “you just made your biggest mistake.”

The call ended.

My stomach tightened.

Ifeoma leaned forward. “What did she say?”

I looked at my screen. A cold fear settled in my chest.

“She’s coming for me.”

THE UNEXPECTED VISITOR

The next morning, I was getting ready for class when I heard a knock on my door.

Sharp. Intense.

Ifeoma and I exchanged glances.

“Who is that?” she called.

No answer. Just another knock.

I walked cautiously to the door, heart pounding. Slowly, I pulled it open—

And my blood froze.

Standing there, looking like he had seen a ghost—

David.

THE CONFESSION

He stepped inside quickly, shutting the door behind him. His face was pale. His eyes, wild.

“Adaeze, what did you do?” he demanded.

I frowned. “Excuse me?”

“Vanessa,” he snapped. “She’s not the type of person you mess with.”

I crossed my arms. “Oh? But it was okay for her to mess with me?”

David ran a hand through his hair. “You don’t get it, Ada. She’s—” He paused, exhaling.

“She’s what?” I challenged.

He looked me dead in the eyes. “She’s dangerous.”

Something about the way he said it sent chills down my spine.

“David,” I whispered, “what are you not telling me?”

He hesitated. Then, finally, he spoke.

“That ‘unknown’ guy in the messages?” he said slowly.

I nodded.

David’s jaw tightened.

“He’s not just some random guy. He’s… her ex.

I frowned. “Okay? So?”

David took a deep breath. “Her ex is a politician’s son, Adaeze. A powerful one.

My stomach dropped.

David continued. “She was supposed to keep their relationship a secret. That leak? It didn’t just embarrass Vanessa… it embarrassed him.

I covered my mouth.

David stepped closer. “And Adaeze?” His voice was barely a whisper.

“You don’t want to be the person who embarrasses a man like that.

BOMBSHELL.

I took a step back. My knees felt weak.

“You mean… Vanessa is not the real threat?” I asked.

David shook his head.

She was just the beginning.
