I Rejected the Richest Guy in Church—Here’s Why I Don’t Regret It: Episode 6
EPISODE 6: The Pressure is On
I had barely settled in my seat for Bible Study on Wednesday when I noticed people staring at me.
Not just ordinary stares—long, judging looks.
Some sisters whispered behind their hands, shaking their heads as they glanced in my direction. A few brothers gave me knowing smirks, like they were enjoying the drama.
The news had officially spread everywhere.
I sighed, pretending not to notice. But inside, my chest tightened.
Why was rejecting a marriage proposal turning into a church-wide scandal?
Just as the opening prayer ended, a church worker leaned down and whispered, “Pastor Daniel wants to see you now.”
I swallowed hard. It was time.
Pastor Daniel’s Office
I knocked softly on the office door.
“Come in,” his voice called.
I stepped inside, closing the door behind me. Pastor Daniel sat behind his desk, his Bible open in front of him. His face was calm, but there was a weight in his eyes.
“Chinaza, sit down.”
I obeyed, clasping my hands in my lap.
There was silence for a few moments before he finally spoke.
“I heard what happened on Sunday,” he said.
I nodded slowly. “Yes, sir.”
He studied me for a long moment. “Is it true that you rejected Brother Charles?”
“Yes, sir.”
He exhaled. “Why?”
I hesitated. I had been preparing myself for this moment, but now that it was here, I suddenly felt exposed.
I took a deep breath. “Because God told me not to marry him.”
Pastor Daniel leaned back in his chair, rubbing his chin. “Chinaza, are you sure about that? Are you really sure this is God’s voice and not just… fear? Or maybe pride?”
I blinked. “Sir?”
He sighed. “Look, I understand wanting to be certain before marriage. But Brother Charles is a good man. He is a strong supporter of this church, committed to God’s work, and highly respected. Many young women have been praying for a husband like him.”
I felt the pressure mounting.
I lowered my gaze. “Sir, I know he looks perfect on the outside, but—”
“Have you seen anything wrong with him?” he cut in. “Has he done anything unchristian?”
I hesitated. “No, sir.”
I hadn’t seen anything, but I had felt something.
Something dark.
Something hidden beneath his polished exterior.
Pastor Daniel sighed again. “Sister Chinaza, I won’t force you into anything. But I need you to truly examine your heart. Are you rejecting this marriage for the right reasons?”
I nodded firmly. “Yes, sir.”
His eyes softened a bit. “Alright.” He closed his Bible. “Then I hope you’re prepared for the backlash.”
I stiffened. “Backlash?”
He nodded. “Chinaza, Charles is not just any brother in this church. He is influential, and people respect him. Some might start seeing you as rebellious. Others might think you wasted his time or disgraced him.”
I swallowed. “Sir, does that mean… you don’t support my decision?”
Pastor Daniel was silent for a moment. Then he smiled slightly.
“I won’t say that. I believe in seeking God’s will. But I also know that men like Charles don’t take rejection lightly.” He closed his Bible. “Be watchful, Chinaza. And be careful.”
I left his office with my mind racing.
Pastor Daniel’s words sounded like a warning.
And deep down, I knew he was right.
Charles was not going to let this go easily.
