I Rejected the Richest Guy in Church—Here’s Why I Don’t Regret It: Episode 9

EPISODE 9: When a Man’s Ego is Bruised

The moment Mummy Esther left my house, I knew one thing for sure—this battle was far from over.

She was not just a church elder. She was a kingmaker.

If she turned against me, that meant more influential people in church would turn against me too.

And I was right.

The Silent Attack

By Sunday, I noticed the shift.

Some people who used to greet me warmly suddenly pretended not to see me.
Some sisters who used to chat with me before service now only whispered among themselves.
Even some church workers began acting funny.

When I tried to sit in my usual spot, Sister Chinyere and her friends blocked the seat.

“We’re keeping this for someone,” she said with a fake smile.

I looked around. The seat was empty.

I didn’t argue. I just found another seat.

But I understood the message loud and clear.

I was becoming an outcast.

The Final Move

After service, I was about to leave when Brother Uche, one of the elders, stopped me.

“Sister Chinaza, please come with me,” he said.

I hesitated.

“Pastor Daniel wants to see you.”

I sighed and followed him.

When I entered the office, I wasn’t surprised to see Pastor Daniel sitting with Charles.

But what shocked me was the third person in the room.

My mother.

She turned to me, her face unreadable. “Chinaza, sit down.”

I obeyed, my heart pounding.

Charles had taken this matter to my family.

The Final Pressure

Pastor Daniel cleared his throat. “Chinaza, we called you here because we believe this issue needs to be settled once and for all.”

I said nothing.

He continued. “Brother Charles has shown great patience. He has forgiven your rejection and is still willing to take you as his wife.”

I clenched my fists. Forgiven? Like I did something wrong?

Pastor Daniel turned to my mother. “Mama Chinaza, your daughter is at a critical age. We don’t want her to make a mistake that will cost her future.”

My mother nodded slowly.

I froze.

She wasn’t defending me?

Pastor Daniel continued. “So we have decided to allow you to take one more week to pray. After that, we hope you will come back with a final decision.”

Charles smiled slightly. “I’ll be waiting, Chinaza.”

I looked at my mother, searching her face for support, for understanding.

But she just said, “My daughter, think about it.”

Something inside me shattered.

I was alone.

But one thing was certain.

No matter what, I was not going back.

Charles had just made his biggest mistake.

And soon, he was going to regret it.

To be continued…
