The Prodigal Daughter – Episode 16

Episode 16: The Last Stand

Sandra’s heart pounded in her chest as she stared at Mr. Leke, standing ominously in front of her. She had thought she was free, but the reality hit hard. The air around her felt thick, every sound exaggerated—the rustle of the trees, the distant hum of a passing car, the rapid beat of her own heart. Her throat was dry, but her mind was working fast.

She glanced at Tolu, who stood by her side, equally tense. The car parked in front of them wasn’t just any vehicle—it was the black SUV she had seen earlier, the one that had been following her for days. Sandra’s stomach twisted. They were trapped.

“Did you really think you could run away from me?” Mr. Leke’s voice was calm, but his eyes glinted with something dangerous. He took a step forward, and Sandra instinctively took a step back.

“I…I just wanted to be free,” she stammered, her voice barely a whisper.

Tolu stepped forward, trying to shield Sandra. “Let her go, Mr. Leke. She didn’t sign up for this.” His voice shook, but there was fire in his words.

Mr. Leke didn’t seem impressed. He waved his hand dismissively. “Freedom? This is the world you chose the moment you got involved with people like me. You can’t walk away, Sandra. It’s too late for that.”

Sandra’s mind raced. There had to be a way out. There had to be something. Her fingers twitched, and she unconsciously reached into her pocket, where she had hidden the small phone Tolu had slipped her earlier. But the chances of escaping with the phone were slim; Mr. Leke’s men were always watching. There was no way she could risk alerting the authorities.

Suddenly, the sound of a loud engine roared from behind them. Both Sandra and Tolu turned, startled. A motorcycle screeched to a halt, and to their shock, a familiar face appeared.

“Get on! Quickly!” Deborah’s voice rang out. Without thinking, Sandra grabbed Tolu’s arm and dashed toward the motorcycle. But Mr. Leke was faster. He blocked their way, his arm outstretched, stopping them in their tracks.

“You really think I’ll let her go that easily?” Mr. Leke sneered, his eyes cold. “Deborah, do you really think you can save her?”

Deborah didn’t flinch. “You’re too late, Mr. Leke. This is over.”

With those words, Deborah turned the ignition on the bike and revved the engine. Sandra hesitated for a moment, looking back at Mr. Leke, who was now furious. But she had no choice. She had to trust Deborah.

The motorcycle roared to life as Sandra and Tolu hopped on. As they sped off, Sandra felt the weight of the situation crashing down on her. She didn’t know what would happen next, but for the first time in weeks, she felt like she might actually have a chance at escaping.

But as they turned a corner, Sandra’s heart sank. The black SUV was right behind them. Mr. Leke wasn’t going to let this go.

“Hold on tight,” Deborah called back to them. “It’s not over yet.”

Episode 17: The Pursuit

The wind whipped through Sandra’s hair as Deborah skillfully maneuvered the motorcycle. Sandra’s heart raced faster than the bike beneath them, but she kept her grip tight. Her thoughts were a blur—one moment she was free, the next she was running for her life again.

Tolu sat behind her, tense and silent. He had been the one to get her out of Mr. Leke’s grip, but now, they were still not safe. Sandra glanced behind them, her pulse quickening when she saw the black SUV trailing them.

“Deborah, they’re not giving up,” Sandra said, her voice laced with panic. “What are we going to do?”

Deborah’s voice was calm, almost too calm. “We keep running. We find a way to lose them.”

The sound of the SUV’s engine grew louder, closing in on them. Sandra could see the headlights gleaming, like a predator closing in on its prey. She couldn’t let Mr. Leke catch her—not now, not after everything she had fought for.

“Deborah, there has to be something we can do. We can’t outrun him forever,” Sandra said, her anxiety mounting.

Deborah glanced back briefly, her expression focused. “Trust me, I’ve got a plan.” She swerved sharply, taking a sudden turn down an alley. Sandra held on tight as they sped through the narrow streets.

The SUV followed, relentless. But as they reached the end of the alley, Deborah did something unexpected. She pulled the bike into a narrow side street, barely wide enough for a car to fit. Sandra’s breath caught in her throat. “What’s the plan now?”

“Keep your head down,” Deborah replied sharply, and Sandra ducked as Deborah cut off the engine. They were in the dark, hidden from view—but only for a moment.

The SUV passed by, its headlights illuminating the street. Sandra’s chest tightened. They were so close, she could almost hear Mr. Leke’s voice shouting orders to his men.

“Are they gone?” Tolu whispered, his eyes scanning the street, his hand on Sandra’s arm.

“Not yet,” Deborah replied. “We wait. Let them pass.”

Sandra’s eyes flicked to the road ahead. The danger was far from over, but for now, they had a chance.

As the sound of the SUV grew distant, Deborah started the bike again. “We move now. But we have to be quick.”

Sandra nodded, her mind still racing. Every corner they turned, every shadow that loomed over them, seemed to carry a threat. But she couldn’t stop now. She had to trust Deborah, even though she didn’t know how far they could go before Mr. Leke found them again.

The road ahead was uncertain, but one thing was clear—Sandra wasn’t going back to the life she had escaped from. No matter what it took, she would fight for her freedom.
