The Prodigal Daughter – Episode 20
Episode 20: The Unseen Enemy
Sandra’s heart raced as the phone rang. Each second that passed felt like an eternity. She could almost hear Mr. Leke’s men closing in on her, as if the world outside the warehouse was already crumbling. Her fingers tightened around the phone as if it were the only thing keeping her grounded in that moment.
Deborah stood a few feet away, watching Sandra with a look of quiet determination. But even Deborah couldn’t mask the tension in the air. This was it—the point of no return.
The phone clicked, and a voice on the other end answered. “Hello?”
Sandra swallowed hard. “I need to speak to someone about a dangerous man. It’s urgent. He’s after me, and I can’t trust anyone but the police.”
There was a long pause. The voice on the other end spoke again, sounding cautious. “Can you give me more details? Who are you?”
Sandra felt a chill. “My name is Sandra Akintoye. He’s been tracking me for weeks. He’s powerful, dangerous. His name is Mr. Leke. He runs an illegal operation, and he’s willing to do anything to keep me quiet. I need protection.”
“Alright, Sandra. Stay where you are. Help is on the way. We’ll be there soon.”
Relief flooded through Sandra, but it was short-lived. She hadn’t realized just how much she had been holding in until now. Her body felt heavy with exhaustion and fear, but she couldn’t let go. Not yet.
Sandra hung up the phone and looked at Deborah, her eyes wide with a mixture of hope and anxiety. “They’re coming,” she whispered.
Deborah nodded. “Good. Now we wait.”
But waiting felt like the longest thing Sandra had ever done. Every minute stretched out like hours. The darkness inside the warehouse felt suffocating. Her thoughts raced—would they get there in time? Would they believe her? Would she ever be truly free from Mr. Leke’s reach?
Suddenly, the sound of tires screeching outside broke the silence. Deborah’s eyes darted toward the window, her face going pale. “They’re here… but it’s not the police.”
Sandra’s heart dropped. The fear she had been suppressing came rushing back like a wave. “What do we do?”
Deborah didn’t hesitate. “We can’t let them find us. Get down.”
Sandra dropped to the floor, her breath caught in her throat. She could hear the sound of boots hitting the ground outside, the unmistakable sound of men searching the area. They were close—too close.
The door to the warehouse creaked open, and Sandra’s stomach twisted with dread. Deborah motioned for Sandra to crawl toward the back of the building. They needed to get out. If these men were here, it meant Mr. Leke knew where they were. He had sent them to finish what he had started.
The men outside began talking, their voices low but threatening. “Check every corner. She’s here. We know it.”
Sandra could feel her heartbeat in her ears. She was trapped again. No matter how much she wanted to believe the police were on their way, it was hard to shake the feeling that it might already be too late.
Deborah turned to her, her face tight with worry. “We have to move. Now.”

Episode 21: The Final Stand
The sound of the men’s footsteps grew louder as they searched the warehouse. Sandra could feel her heart hammering in her chest, her breath shallow as she crouched in the dark corner. The weight of her fear made her limbs feel heavy, but Deborah was already on her feet, her expression hard and focused.
“Stay quiet,” Deborah whispered, her eyes scanning the room for any possible way out. “We can’t let them find us.”
Sandra nodded, trying to steady her breathing. It felt like every sound in the warehouse was amplified, the creak of the floorboards under their weight, the rustling of their clothes. She had no idea how they’d gotten so close, but it was clear—Mr. Leke had made his move. His men were here to finish what they’d started.
Sandra’s thoughts were interrupted when Deborah suddenly gestured for her to follow. There was a narrow door in the back of the warehouse that led into the alley behind it. If they could get there undetected, they might have a chance to escape.
But as they moved toward the door, one of the men’s voices cut through the air. “I’m sure she’s here. We’re not leaving until we find her.”
Sandra’s stomach churned. They couldn’t afford to be found now—not when they were so close to freedom. She and Deborah crept toward the door, doing their best to stay hidden in the shadows.
The door was just within reach when a loud bang echoed through the warehouse. One of the men had kicked something, alerting the others to their presence.
“Damn it,” Deborah cursed, her eyes narrowing with frustration. She quickly turned to Sandra, her voice urgent. “Run. Get to the alley, now!”
Sandra didn’t need any more encouragement. She bolted toward the door, her feet barely touching the ground. She could hear the men shouting behind her, the sound of their footsteps chasing her through the darkness.
She reached the door and pushed it open, her body freezing for a split second when she saw a dark figure standing in the alley. Her heart dropped—had they been caught?
But it wasn’t Mr. Leke’s men. It was someone else.
“Move!” the figure hissed, grabbing Sandra’s arm. It was one of the officers from the police. “We got your back. Go, go!”
Sandra didn’t hesitate. She ran as fast as she could, her legs burning as she pushed through the alley. Deborah was already ahead of her, the police officer at her side. They made it to a black van parked at the end of the alley, and without wasting a second, they jumped inside.
As the van screeched away from the warehouse, Sandra turned back, her breath coming in quick gasps. For the first time in weeks, she felt a flicker of hope. They were getting away. The police had come through, just like they promised.
Deborah sat across from her, her eyes meeting Sandra’s. “It’s not over yet, but this is the first step.”
Sandra nodded, wiping the sweat from her brow. “What happens now?”
“We fight,” Deborah said, her voice steady. “We fight for you to be free from him. And we make sure that Mr. Leke never hurts anyone again.”
Sandra didn’t say anything, but she knew one thing for sure—her life had changed forever. The fight wasn’t over, but she had taken the first step toward reclaiming her future.
And this time, she wouldn’t let anyone take it away.
