Episode 40: No Way Out

The sound of the lock clicking into place sent a cold wave through Sandra’s chest.

Trapped.

Lanre cursed under his breath, adjusting his grip on Tunde, who was barely conscious. Deborah’s hands were still shaking from the gunshot she had fired, but she held onto the weapon, trying to steady herself.

Mr. Leke remained on the floor, but his confidence had returned. “I told you,” he said with a smirk. “You don’t win against me.”

Sandra ignored him and looked around. The room had no windows, no back exit. Just the one door, now locked. The only way out was through whoever was waiting on the other side.

Chuka groaned from the floor, still clutching his bleeding shoulder. His eyes darted toward Mr. Leke, as if waiting for an order.

Sandra stepped forward, fists clenched. “You think you’ve won?” she said, forcing herself to sound calm. “You think locking us in here will stop us?”

Mr. Leke chuckled. “It’s not just the door, Sandra. It’s what’s waiting for you outside.”

Deborah shot a glance at Lanre, then back at Sandra. “What do we do?”

Sandra’s mind raced. There had to be a way out. Then she remembered—Lanre had made it in here somehow.

She turned sharply. “How did you get in?”

Lanre hesitated. “The vent in the next room. I squeezed through.”

Sandra’s heart leaped. That was their way out.

But just as she opened her mouth to speak, a voice from outside shouted, “If you don’t come out, we’re blowing the door open!”

A sickening realization hit Sandra. They weren’t just waiting. They were ready to kill.

And worse—Chuka had started laughing.
