Some people asked Mark Driscoll to leave the stage during the Stronger Men’s Conference in Missouri because he called the performance by a flying sword swallower and male stripper, which started the conference, “the Jezebel spirit.” Driscoll had to explain himself.

The performance of Alex Magala swallowing a sword, which made him famous on family-friendly shows like “America’s Got Talent” and “Britain’s Got Talent,” and Driscoll’s response to it have already sparked a lot of comments on social media and headlines in many publications, including USA Today, which Driscoll said on Monday got wrong when they wrote about what he means by “the Jezebel spirit.”

Merriam-Webster says that a jezebel is “an arrogant, shameless, or morally unrestrained woman.” USA Today reported that it’s an insulting word like “tramp” and has links to racism and images that are meant to belittle black people.

The senior minister of Trinity Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, Driscoll, who is known for speaking out, did take the time to address USA Today.

Is “Jezebel spirit” the same thing as “tramp”? No, and it has nothing to do with racism. As far back as Queen Jezebel in 1 Kings and as far forward as Jesus’ rebuke of the church in Thyatira in Revelation 2, the Jezebel spirit has worked through men and women. This demon wants to control and rule, most of the time through attractive women but also through men who are too controlling and bossy. I wrote the book on this subject. I’d like to give it away for free. It doesn’t help me in any way; I just want men and women to learn more about the spiritual war that lies beneath the war we see.

“New Days, Old Demons” Driscoll’s book is a “prophetic study of sex, gender, woke politics, and how progressive Christianity is just a new name for old paganism.” Demons that were active during Elijah’s time are still active today, cutting off the sperm of men, cutting off the limbs of children, stopping churches, and putting down Bible teachers.
